I think that it all depends on what you believe. I'm not going to dismiss science or dismiss spiritual beliefs.

For example, science will say that it's the Idometer Effect. It has something to do with impulses in your brain that send signals to your fingers to move the planchette or something to that effect.

However, most users of spirit boards believe that it's a spirit of some type.

I'd have to say that you really need a deep spiritual belief in order to get it to work. Or tap into an untapped source in yourself. Many people get theirs to "work" on the very first try and on every try after. Some people never get theirs to work. And some people get them to work on occasion.

I rarely use mine. However, each time I have used mine I am mentailly psyched and determined to find something or someone.

A great place to go to learn about spirtual or other esoteric things is "druidsfoot.com."

There are some extremely intelligent people on that website who have many esoteric beliefs.
